Canterbury

On Sunday I managed to convince my parents to go on a little road trip to Canterbury. Of course Gus came along!

Caterbury is in Kent, which is over the river from Essex. So to get there we had to go over the QEII bridge. Here is Gus on the bridge.

When we got there we parked near a lovely little river that flowed along the side of some old buildings. There were ducks on the river; Gus liked them! We were too slow to get a picture with them though, so this one had to do.

First we went to the High Street. There are loads of old buildings on the high street aswell as some great shops. There we did some shopping for stuff that Gus can take back to Becky in Austrailia.

Also on the High Street was an old fashioned telephone box. Gus tried to phone home but couldn't remember the number...

We continued along the High Street, moving towards the cathedral. We passed a little bridge over the river where tour guides were selling boat tours. We stopped there for a while and saw a witches ducking chair over the water. These chairs were used in Medieval times to prove whether or not someone was a witch. If you drowned you wasn't a witch, but if you survived you were and you were burnt. So either way you can't win!

We walked round to the cathedral entrance. We couldn't get a proper view of it because for that you had to go into the actual grounds, and it was packed with tourists :( Gus was dissapointed but understood.

We made our way back to the car, and back home to Basildon. On the way home we stopped off at a motorway service station that went over the road. In there we had a drink and watched the England Vs Japan football game that was live on the telly. Gus wasn't interested in watching England play, so took the oppertunity to have a good look over the motorway.

We had a great day out in Canterbury. Gus picked out some nice stuff to send back to Becky in August, he has very good taste in gifts!

Settling In

Gus has been relaxing at home for the first few days here in England - he's settled in quite nicely. Here's what he's been up to...

On Thursday he met my pet fish Sylar! Sylar loves having his picture taken so it wasn't a problem getting this photo! He and Gus talked for ages about the advantages and disadvantages of being a fish or a turkey :b

On Friday Gus helped me with some crocheting. I decided to make him a hat and scarf for when he goes back home to Oz. He chose the colours, and even had a go at crocheting himself! He did a good job!

That evening I introduced Gus to my fav programme of all time - Red Dwarf! It's a comedy set in deep space from about 15 years ago (old skool!!). Gus was rolling up, he said it was so funny! I think we're gonna be watching alot more Red Dwarf in the coming months!

I'm going to try and convince my parents to go on a road trip this weekend, as it's Bank Holiday. Weather permitting, that is. I think Gus will like our road trips, we go to some interesting places!

Arrival

Gus has arrived!

I woke up this morning to a knock at the door. My Mum got there before I did and was handed a parcel. I knew it was Gus! I ran to the kitchen and opened it!

Inside I found a passport, contract, chocolate and a very squashed Gus! He was very happy to get out of the box!

After a little while of getting used to his surroundings I asked if he wanted a drink. He said he did, but he might need something a bit strong after his long journey. I had just the thing...

... he was very happy with a can of Fosters! He says he reckons he'll fit in well here! I think so too :)

Plus I've heard today that Gladys has arrived in Australia! Yay! Let the adventures begin!

It's All Go!!

This summer I'll be taking part in the Little Visitor Swap Round 12 on Craftster.org. In the swap you exchange a small toy with your partner and show it around and take it on adventures throughout the summer. For this round I've been paired with Beckashell from Australia!

The toy I'm sending is Gladys, the Monstie...

... she's mega excited about the months ahead, but told me she isn't looking forward to the long journey half way around the world!

In Gladys' place will be Gus the turkey!

I'm really looking forward to him arriving! And who knows - maybe Gus and Gladys will pass in the sky!

So this is basically a blog for Gus. I'll keep it updated regularly with pictures and accounts of his adventures here in England.

I'll let you know when he arrives!
